The transition from high school to college can be difficult for a lot of people. With the amount of deadlines from exams and projects, college can quickly become overwhelming. With the amount of pressures that students may face, may come major mental health issues resulting from stress, overwork and fatigue. It is important to take your mental health seriously and seek help. Up 75 percent of college students with possible mental health issues do not seek help. At the University of Maryland there are a variety of resources at your hand for students. Don't be afraid to seek help.
Below is a general list of links to websites and groups that deal specifically with issues related to mental health on campus:
UMD Health Center
The health center has services specifically for mental health. They focus on listening, understand and healing because they know there are times when students struggle and need support. Their services include:

Short Term Individual Therapy
Group Therapy
Medication Evaluations
Mental Health Emergencies
Suicide Prevention Program

UMD Counseling Center
The counseling center provides even more support services to ensure that students succeed personally, socially and academically. Their consultation and referral services are available to students, parents, guardians and faculty. Their counseling services provides free and confidential therapy to manage any personal, social and academic challenges. They have a staff of licensed psychologists and can provide referrals to off-campus mental health providers.To schedule an appointment for counseling services, call (301) 314-7651 or stop by the Counseling Center reception desk on the main level of Shoemaker Building.
Active Minds
Active Minds is an organization on campus that wants to change the conversation about mental health. They look to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues to create an open conversation about mental health issues at UMD. They lead multiple campus events and national programs. UMTTR
UMTTR at UMD is a part of the UMTTR nationwide programs that looking to stop bullying, depression and suicide among student at UMD. The organization helps advocate for mental health issues by selling Maryland themed wristbands, magnets and shirts to spread the thought that everyone matters.
